Mueller Service Company Services

Mueller Service Company - PictureWet taps from 3/4” through 20”
Wet taps typically install a “lateral” valve onto a pressurized pipe at a location where no valve was previously located. The process does not require the pipe to be shut down or isolated from the system, allowing the valve and its tee (or sleeve) to be installed without affecting water service to customers. This allows the Utility to avoid the water system shut down required for installations using conventional “dry main” construction methods.

Smaller wet taps( 3/4” through 2”)are made for a variety of purposes including new service line installation, service line replacement, bulk water “filling station” installation, disinfectant or additive injection, sample point access, or immediate area flushing. Purposes for larger wet taps (4” and up) include water main extension, fire hydrant installation, large service tap, water system re-routing, or valve relocation.

As a “Full Service” underground point specific service provider, Mueller Service Company technicians are fully equipped and trained to safely perform wet taps (up to 20”). They excavate (including ‘call for locates’ and maintenance of road traffic), perform either a small or large wet tap, tie in or extend the service or water main for the appropriate purpose, then restore areas to pre-excavation condition.

Mueller Service Company can provide a total “turn-key” opportunity for the Utility that is short of sufficient staff or time. Optionally, Mueller Service Company can work in “partnership” with the Utility that opts to assist in the excavation, maintenance of traffic, or restoration of property/pavement.

Mueller Service Company works to develop a comprehensive plan that meets the needs of the Utility, which may include:

  • Perform wet taps on pressurized pipe (3/4” up through 20”).
  • Tie in or extend a water service or main, or install fire hydrant as appropriate.
